Practical English for Myanmar!
I dedicate this blog to my fellow Myanmar Nationals to share our knowledge amongst ourselves, especially in learning English. I am a learner myself and still continue learning English all the time.
I am working full time as a Mechanical Engineer and teaching English on part-time basis twice a week on Thursday and Sunday.
At this blog, I will share what I read, what I come across or what I think that might be useful. I will compile and present all things related to English Learning!
If you spot any mistakes, please do not hesitate to correct me. You may also email to me that you would like me to put on this blog. Thanks for visiting and your comments will be very much appreciated.

Here are the most common spelling rules in English.
Capital Letters (စာလံုးၾကီး)
Use Capital (T, S, B, etc.) letters for the following types of words:
Monday, January, Christmas
Jack, Maria, New York, Germany
Ms, Dr, General
Dutch, American, Shan, Kachin, Buddhist
The Last Day of Summmer, American Journal of Medicine
When to Double Final Consonants
The final consonant of a word is often doubled when adding -ed, -ing, -er, -est in the following cases:-ေအာက္ ကပံုစံေတြ အတိုင္း စာလံုး တစ္လံုး ကို -ed, -ing, -er, -est ေပါင္း ခ်ိန္မွာ ေနာက္ဆံုးဗ်ည္း ကို ၂ခါဆင့္ ပါတယ္၊-
rob - robbing
sad - sadder
big - bigger
travel - traveller
skim - skimming
win - winner
pop - popping
prefer - preferred
hit - hitting
begin - beginn ing BUT open - opening
defer - deferr ing BUT offer - offering
British English - travelled
American English - traveled
Leave off the final 'e' in the following cases:
make - making
note - notable
agree - agreeable
encourage - encouragement
embrace - embraceable
'IE' and 'EI'
This is a common spelling problem, even for native English speakers. Probably the best thing to do is remember this rhyme:
I before E except after C (လကၤာ) ( E ေရွ ့I လာ "C' မပါ)
relief
thief
believe
BUT
perceive
receipt
ceiling
'Y' and 'I' ( Yနဲ့ I ၾကေတာ့ ဘာလုပ္ရပါ့)
When adding an ending to a word that finishes in 'y', the 'y' usually changes to 'i': ( Y နဲ့ ဆံုး တဲ့ စကားလံုး ေတြ ကို ေနာက္ တိုး စာလံုး ေပါင္းမလား၊ 'y' ကို 'i' ေၿပာင္း ၿပီး လိုရာေပါင္း လိုက္ပါ)
party - parties
hurry - She hurries to work.
happy - happily
lazy - lazily
easy - easier
stay - stays
enjoy - enjoyed
EXCEPTIONS: ( ၿခြင္းခ်က္)
say, lay, pay - said, laid, paid
boy - boyish
try - trying
'IE' to 'Y' ( 'IE ကေန Y ေၿပာင္းမယ္)
When a word ends in 'ie' change to 'y' before adding '-ing' ( စာလံုး တစ္လံုး က 'ie' နဲ့ဆံုးခဲ့မယ္ဆိုရင္ 'ie' ကို 'y' ေၿပာင္းၿပီးမွ 'ing' ေပါင္းပါ)
die - dying
lie - lying
